The newly-elected Club Captain, Lady Captain and Seniors Captain were welcomed into office in the traditional manner at Freshwater Bay Golf Club’s annual Captain’s Drive-In, with over £300 raised for Independent Arts.
the Captain’s Charity for 2023 who gave a presentation to members about the work the charity undertakes.
Independent Arts is a small charity, based on the Isle of Wight, that uses the healing power of the arts – music, movement and visual – to improve health and well-being for thousands of people – to change lives. For the past 35 years, Independent Arts has worked with professional artists and musicians to deliver an incredible range of high-quality activities in the community and care homes.
The 10-hole Stableford competition in the morning was remarkably close, with 5 competitors all scoring 20 points, but the winner was Hugh Morrison with 21 points.
The winners of the ‘nearest peg’ competition were Dave Bell, Mark Vallely and Sheila Francis, who all correctly guessed where the Captain’s drive would land.
Lisa Gagliani MBE (Chief Executive) for Independent Arts has said:
“It’s wonderful that Captain Gary Dobson and members of Freshwater Bay Golf Club have chosen Independent Arts to support as their charity of the year. We were warmly welcomed by the members and we are really looking forward to supporting their fundraising achievements. As a club, they align so well with us as they completely understand the need for companionship, which is at the heart of everything Independent Arts does.
“Too many people on the Isle of Wight are isolated and lonely through bereavement, ill health or circumstances they can’t control, and joining one or more of our sessions such as SingAbout, DanceMakers or Creative Café has become a lifeline to many.”

Well done guys, now get back to work.
