The site of the much-missed Zanies nightclub in Sandown has gone on the market this week for a smidge under £900,000.
In recent years the derelict land has been used as car parking for a nearby hotel, but now the decision has been taken to put the plot on the open market through local agents Spence Willard.
Situated on the Esplanade, the land sits just off the sandy beaches to the south of Sandown Pier next to Napolean’s Landing.
Planning permission for 5 houses was granted by the Isle of Wight Council in December 2017.
The plot is offered on a long leasehold of 1,000 years from 1854 – but a covenant prevents building much higher than the proposed houses.

The memories there and the old Bogeys site. Many an Islander was conceived betwixt the beach huts and the W.Cs where the bandstand now is.
Why is it when people think that property is of significant value they use Spence Willard, It’s likely that it’s been valued at a lower price by other estate agents but Spence Willard Who like to deem themselves as selling premium property hyped the price up which of course appeals to the seller ! If this was for sale by the online estate agent purple bricks probably be more realistic 800,000 and it would probably sell a lot quicker.
Actually Trev, you’re on the money. Funny thing is that I had a friend down for a week in September who works for Saville’s in their Brompton Road London office. He’s an expert in his field with land evaluations, and came in between 750k and 775k.
895k is cuckoo land!
So now Island builders and developers you know where to go in straight away with your opening offer. Good luck.
