A professional conduct panel hearing is to be held later this week against former Ryde Academy headteacher, Joy Ballard.
The Teaching Regulation Agency has confirmed that a professional conduct panel has been convened in accordance with The Teachers’ Disciplinary (England) Regulations 2012 to consider the case of Ms Ballard.
Joy Ballard took over at Ryde Academy in 2015, having previously starred on television’s Educating Cardiff. She turned Willows High School around to become one of the most improved schools in Wales.
But it was midway through 2024 that Ms Ballard disappeared from her post at Ryde Academy, with the school coming under the interim stewardship of William Doyle. At the time, no detailed public explanation was given regarding her absence.
By September of that year, it was announced that Ms Ballard had ‘retired from teaching’.
Lift Ryde – formerlly known as Ryde Academy – has issued a statement to parents, stating that the school was the one to raise concerns over Joy Ballard’s professional conduct to the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA). The school states that when she left the school, the TRA was still considering the concerns raised so it would have been inappropriate to comment.
The forthcoming Teaching Regulation Agency hearing will now consider her professional conduct. Details of the allegations to be examined by the panel have not been published in advance.
The virtual hearing will run from Friday (27th February) through to Monday 9th March.
So what has she done? The parents have a right to know? She left on her own accord so something has obviously happened that shouldn’t have?

This is a professional conduct hearing by the Teaching Regulation Agency, not a prosecution. The Agency will, no doubt release details after the hearing is concluded. I imagine they will not wish to resk prejudicing the hearing or placing Ms Ballard’s reputation in jeopardy unless and until they have decided that her conduct fell short of their professional standards.
My son seemed to think she had something to do with a school in Essex? Also heard she was something to do with sandown high school? Obviously this is complete hearsay so I’m very interested to know the actual facts with having a child at the school!
Rumors say that she spent schools money on personal things such as furniture for her hone

Agree completely about the ridiculous name for a school. Sounds like a taxi firm. Just to confirm, it is Ryde High School that is being talked about.

She’s not retired she works at a different school as a ta she is just retired from being a head teacher
