26-year-old Andrew Bruce has been handed a driving ban by the courts after pleading guilty to rolling a 4×4 onto its roof whilst over the drink-drive limit.
Bruce, of Fairfield Gardens in Lake, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday charged with 1 count of drink driving.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called to a single vehicle collision on Beaper Shute at 20:00 on 11th May this year.
The court heard from the prosecution that Bruce, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, blew 60 at the roadside but the evidential reading recorded 48.
Magistrates were told that Bruce previously worked as a professional courier driver on the mainland and had driven hundreds of thousands of miles, but has now lost that work.
Defending, Henry Farley said his client was very remorseful and ashamed to be in court. Mr Farley explained on his client’s behalf that a vehicle was driving in the opposite direction and well over the white line, which led to Bruce taking evasive action, mounting the verge and rolling the car.
Skid marks can still be seen on the road today.
No explanation was given as to why Bruce was drunk behind the wheel.
Andrew Bruce was handed a 14-month driving ban, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
Especially as a ex professional driver he should of known better than drink and drive no one to blame but himself

Wondered why my parcel was late.
While not an excuse, I was sat in the lay by southbound waiting for a phone call. A black car came past northbound overtaking a car at speed and nearly clipped my wing mirror! Speed on thus road has always been a factor in these sorts of accidents and if you add that to crap driving you get a major incident.
As someone else said, why don’t they stick the useless cash camera down there and at least give some of these chancers a fine?

Reading the article it kind of implies that he has now lost his professional driving job as a result of this. If thats true – Good. Excellent news. Hopefully he will never drive professionally again. Moron.

Sounds great to call yourself a professional courier driver but as such courier companies only employ bums on seats, therefore it’s nothing to be proud of. No driving qualifications are required to drive a van except to have a full driving licence.
