A 4×4 has rolled onto its roof on Beaper Shute between Ryde and Brading this evening (Wednesday), blocking the road in both directions.
Emergency services are currently on scene at the Tesco end of the main road, close to Bartletts Green Tea Room, having been alerted to the incident at 20:00.
1 car – believed to be a luxury Mercedes – has come to rest upside down.
No one is trapped and no serious injuries are thought to have been sustained at this stage.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 2 ambulance crews and an operational commander on scene.
The road has been closed in both directions and is likely to remain closed for the next couple of hours.
Southern Vectis buses are unable to pass or turn at the scene and are therefore delayed.
This evening’s incident is the second involving a vehicle rollover today alone. A Mazda 2 was involved in a collision on Ocean View Road, Ventnor this morning.
UPDATE – 26-year-old Andrew Bruce has been charged with drink driving. Read more at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/lake-man-charged-with-drink-driving-after-rolling-car-on-beaper-shute/.
Drink driving or another sneeze
Or another phone
This one was a stray hair over one eye
We are getting more rollovers than the lottery.
Let me guess they all sneezed before hand lol
30 Years ago, cars ending up on their roof was almost unheard of on the island
Q. What has changed in the last 30 years to warrant this massive upsurge in cars crashing and flipping?
A. Mobile Phones
30 years of being behind the times.
Excess pollen… climate change
Atishoo
Better driving skills! Cars are meant to be smart and safe! Probably looking at sat nav or watching tractor porn
Sneezing!
Not just mobile phones – modern cars are built much lighter and they are much faster with quicker acceleration and more efficient braking – so I would argue that more care has to be taken driving a modern car or it will run away from you – and roll over …
Put wheels on car roofs then they can carry on upside down
Not the same driver from Ventnor who turned the car over after sneezing.
That excuse is one of the oldest in the book! Gets people off easier
i thought it was only I O W drivers could put cars on their roofs
Well look in the mirror your wrong
No anyone can do it, We on the Island just do it a lot more.
Twit bet your the best driver upside down
It’s roll your car on the roof week.
Hope whoever it is get banned for reckless driving unless there’s a genuine reason why this happened
They really ought to start fitting wheels on the rooves of cars sold on the Island.
It would be a good idea for the emergency services to move the road closed barriers to the St Helens lights! Would save traffic having to turn round in the road by the cricket club.
Bore off
Sorry I sneezed must be in the air tonight bad driving can’t handle the power or simply stupid
Glad everyone is ok. Some skills to roll a car! And two in two days. Wow, just wow amazing bit of driving skills
It never stops, it only gets worse. Only a matter of time before an innocent family gets wiped out by these out of control drivers.
OMG more very bad driving? IOW drivers know the roads so what’s going on?? Stupid idiots either tourists/ drunk/drug driving? Lucky no one innocent involved.
All cars are luxuries if your on local wages. Oh, hang about, most employers will say they gave you a raise but then cut your hours the same day. Very long istablished household shop in Freshwater.
And shops in other towns
Absolutely unbelievable! I think this driver was not concentrating, the amount of mud in the passenger side wheel arch says the car wandered into the bank, gave it a right good thump then flipped it. What was the driver doing to have so little control?
DRUNK.
Looks just like the merc that cut me up on Copins Bridge around 7pm yesterday, driver was on the phone.
My car is luxury too, it has heated and air cooled seats, climate control, opening sunroof, memory seats, electric everything, leather, soft touch cabin. Not a Merc though and that looks like a GLA which is a Renault with a merc badge on. Come on IE just say a car has rolled onto its roof.
The luxury 4×4 just turned into a write off !!!!
Why the need to state luxury ?????
Just as long as occupants are OK and it wasn’t drink / drug’s speed related …..it was an accident !!!!!
Its just lucky there was no cyclist or smaller car in the way of the overweight blob when it was rolled..
Not somebody farting again.£2000 fine for farming.
Council should force the farmers verges in the banks .30 years ago cars couldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding its called technology moving forward unlike people from Brighstone that want bikes to race at 50mph and moaning about buses with two cars parked on there drives!
Technology has moved forward in 30 years with cars but the skills and brain power to control them hasn’t. In fact it appears to have regressed.
Maybe it is because so many seem to have adopted a hunched down limb dragging posture and breathing through their mouth doesn’t get enough oxygen to the brain cell.
Just a theory…
He definitely can’t park there.
drink driving bloody idiot could of killed innocent people, lock him up throw the key
he’s prob more upset about his car than the danger on the road he was
If you want to make the roads safer fit a sharp steel spike to the steering column and take out the air bags no one will drive over 3mph
And there should be no drink drive limit if you drink you don’t drive even if you just have a mouthfull and if you do drink and drive it should be 20 years in prison £100,000 fine and licence revoked FOR LIFE never to be able to hold a drivers licence again anywhere in the world and that should be for a first offence to make sure it’s the last offence and the person should have to by law financialy support any injured victim of their drunk driving or their family if they kill anyone for life
Keep up the good work, we’ll soon know all the unmarked cop cars
