26-year-old Andrew Bruce has been charged with drink driving following a crash on Beaper Shute on the outskirts of Ryde last night (Wednesday).
Emergency services were called to reports of a 4×4 overturning and coming to rest upside down on its roof at just gone 20:00, as first reported by Island Echo.
The silver Mercedes 4×4 appeared to have collided with a bank before rolling over on the main Ryde to Brading road, close to the Tesco roundabout.
Police have now confirmed that Andrew Thomas Bruce, of Fairfield Gardens in Lake, has been charged with driving a vehicle when alcohol level above limit.
He has been bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 27th May.

mummy will be upset he’s written her car off the silly boy! guess this is a new trend on the island driving on your roof
Lol
Only 2 ways a 26 year old can afford a car like that. Rich parents with a spoiled childhood and who only thinks of themselves or a drug dealing self centred low life.
Wrong. Car finance is so accessible and cheap you could have a car like this at 17.
Try and get insurance!!
Only if he’s on benefits, working people would find it difficult because they pay rent, mortgage and council tax..
Probably both.
Why stereotype people of that age fred?? That is completely unfair,I have 2 children and both under the age of 26, both went to University and got the grades they needed, they both now work in the stock market in london earning 6 figures yearly! So for you to write that is out of order, maybe jealousy thst he is driving a nice car, not everyone on the island are drug dealers.yea I worked hard when younger to provide for my kids and to put them into university, but most parents do that,so am I wrong in doing that.
Was just about to say. At 26 I had a net worth of about 300k and I grew up without a pot to piss in.
Same thing if you type “best payed jobs” into Google. It will tell you a bunch of bs that 50-75k is top whack for top professions…
What about the sea of contractors in London doing basic work from home coding jobs for 500-700 a day…
The masses are poor because they are blind and/or lazy. Just a note before the attack of the karens, if you are disabled, a victim of dibilitating mental health etc, you are not what I am referring to by the ‘masses’ and I have no judgement on you at all. But if you are someone who blames “stupid parents” there’s this little thing called the internet with lots of resources like Udemy + YouTube where you can learn anything. There’s also 16 hours a day where you aren’t asleep.
Anyway, don’t all go and make something of yourselves… Otherwise there won’t be any left for those evil rich 26 year olds that keep flipping their cars!
Thanks for the tip about Udemy, they do very interesting looking courses. Will take a couple up in my spare time and see how I get on.
Wow, what kind of lowlifes are there on here?! Down voting me for wanting to better myself by wanting to try a course. This island is screwed.
Absolutely agree, Ryde Resident.
Udemy is a MOOC (a Massive Online Learning Course), originating in the US. Another excellent MOOC that you might like to investigate is UK based Future Learn.
Good luck to you with your learning plans!
Maybe a company car fred, he made mistake of drink driving, but why jump to conclusions? Is it you because your haven’t a pot too p I s s in?
It was a rental
How about working and saving for a deposit?, credit is so cheap these days anyone can afford this entry level GLA Mercedes lol.
Yes, but this isn’t an entry level Merc. It’s a GLE.
It was a rental car :/
All these accidents, amazing.. just out of interest I would love to know if the drivers are actual Islanders, born , bred, or over 20 years.. or recently say 5 years moved here.. ?
Why is that of interest?
What does that have to do with anything? I’m from the mainland and honestly, I’ve seen more bad driving from HW registered cars than anything…. Let’s not mention the private “10W” plates…
That was the most expensive drink ever. Moron. At least it was only him in the accident and no one else.
If he is found guilty the insurance company will not pay out, oh well never mind, at least nobody else was injured by this selfish act of drink driving.
You can’t park there sir
Omg ….
Should be given the maximum disqualification …..
Biggest fine …..
And the good news is his luxury 4×4 is a total write off lol ….
Serves him right !!!
Not so clever now pillock (polite version ) ….
Let’s hope he had his posh car on credit ,,,,,,, and will still have to pay for it….
Buses and bicycle for you now hahaha lol…..
You and others have set the bar very low indeed regarding what is luxurious!!!. This model is a GLA, very basic, cheap to buy and cheap to insure. Test drive the S Class then you’ll change your mind lol.
They call it a luxury 4×4 in headline !!!!
To me a car is a car whatever the model …To be serviced mot d taxed and insured and be roadworthy!!!
The driver to be responsible enough not to drink / drug drive !!!!
Due diligence ….
It’s a GLE. You can tell from the rear most window and the arches.
It was a rental car and the bill will be ridiculous!
Well that’s a Bonus !!!!
Still have to cough up …
Catch buses or cycle or walk ….
Win win !!!!
Take his license away permanently ..he could of killed someone..he’s just a cretin
I have a business idea if anyone fancies coming on board… A roof rack with wheels! available for all new drivers, tourists and any family who allow the ‘kids’ to drive their vehicles!!! For sale at both ferry terminals and well known pubs that don’t give a toss if a driver seems drunk or not.. Any takers??
🙂 🙂 🙂
Bast*rd! Could have killed someone. Too many of these bloody idiots who think it’s ok to drink or drug drive. Automatic jail time, that should be the sentence. Stop messing about and give them a reason not to do it. There are no proper consequences to stop them.
Another idiot will be along soon..
I wonder if the insurance company will pay out?
As I understand it if convicted they are not going to pay out. Serves the irresponsible
lunatic right. Expensive night.
Very lucky he didn’t kill himself or someone else. Lock him up.
Sad thing is he probably would’ve got away with it if he hadn’t of rolled it… just greatful me and my family weren’t under it . Happened within minutes of us passing through there. Assh#*le
Drink or drug driving? Lifetime ban, rigorously enforced. End of.
Good thing is he won’t be insured if he is found guily of drink driving
Very stereotypical to blame people on benefits for the reason they have this car unbelievable and stupid comment! Anyone can crash a car wether rich or poor and the understanding of why they have the car really is neither here nor there just bigoted opinions hold this country bk
More likely to if drunk !!!!
Which he was ……
