Island Roads has once again closed Morton Common – the main road between Ryde and Sandown – due to flooding of the carriageway. Overnight the water levels on the Eastern Yar rose to such an extent that the road became impassable, resulting in a road closure in both directions being established during the early hours. It comes after some heavy downpours in recent days which has seen water running off fields to swell the Eastern Yar. Motorists must now divert via Yaverland well travelling to or from Sandown. Traffic delays are expected to be worse than normal due to the closure of the main road into Bembridge this week, putting greater pressure on Yarbridge. Southern Vectis says that its Route 2 and 3 buses are on diversion. Buses will be diverting via Yaverland and Marshcombe Shute until further notice. It is unknown when the road is likely to reopen.
