An urgent flood warning has been issued for parts of Newport – alongside several flood alerts for other areas of the Isle of Wight – due to a substantial amount of rainfall overnight, with property flooding expected.
Around 24mm of rain has been recorded, leading to fears that flooding will affect properties at the bottom of Castle Street in Carisbrooke and Vicarage Walk/Foxes Road in Newport, with levels expected to be very high at Caesars Road and Old Westminster Lane.
The Environment Agency says that residents should activate any flood protection products you may have.
Elsehwere, less severe flood alerts are in force for St John’s in Ryde and the Eastern Yar between Whitwell and Sandown.
There are also flood alerts in place for the River Medina around Blackwater and Shide, and another for the upper reaches of the Lukely Brook.
UPDATE @ 07:20 – A flood warning has now been issued for Gurnard Luck.
The Environment Agency says flooding will affect gardens, roads, and low lying properties in Marsh Road.
Marsh Road is understood to already be impassable to all traffic.

Omg the poor people, I hope they have flood defences? X
ye a bucket and sponge
Let’s hope southern water have the facilities to harness this water for the summer months?
No it was the wrong kind of rain, silly. And where’s the new reservoirs being built?…Ohh there arn’t any funny that.So when they say hosepipe ban tell them all to fuckoff..
Who would have thought that properties built on flood-plains, marshland & old mill-ponds would suffer flooding..?
We never used to have a problem with flooding, the problem has been caused by keep on concreting over the fields to build free homes for the chavs, thereby causing the rain water nowhere to go except for low lying areas. It can’t go down the drains because they are full of crap, and don’t get cleaned out, and the waterways are weeded and silted up thanks to cuts in proper maintenance, even though we are screwed every year for more and more council tax. Flooding is caused my neglect of proper environmental services
All true.
Exactly you have said it all in a nutshell really.
