floodwarningredcowesThe Environment Agency has this afternoon (Sunday) issued a flood warning for East Cowes, Cowes and Newport.

Water levels are expected to be high around the slipways throughout Cowes, with properties on the slipway close to the floating bridge expected to flood. The tide will be high around Newport although flooding of property is not anticipated here.

High tide is expected later this evening shortly before 23:00, with winds expected to reach Force 8.

Sandbags will be available at St Mary’s car park, Cowes and Well Road car park in East Cowes. To request sandbags, please contact Island Roads on 01983 822440.

UPDATE @ 22:45 Newport Quay has flooded this evening and is approximately 2ft under water, according to sources. A number of roads across the Island have also become flooded including Beapers Shute, Brading.

UPDATE @ 23:40 – Island Roads have reported that Princes Esplanade, Cowes has become almost impassable. Flooding has also occurred at East Cowes seafront.

UPDATE MONDAY @ 09:30 – The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Isle of Wight coast this morning. Residents should be aware that high tide is due at 11:12.
