Ryde residents are being warned of the potential for significant flooding in the Monktonmead area overnight, with as much as 80mm rainfall forecast for the coming hours.
The Environment Agency has highlighted that intense rainfall is expected on the Isle of Wight, as first reported by Island Echo earlier today.
As a result, a flood alert has been issued this evening.
The exact areas to be impacted by the band of rain moving across Southern England is uncertain, but Islanders are warned flash flooding could occur if it hits the Island as predicted.
Flooding could affect Marymead Close, and the Simeon Street recreation ground.
The Environment Agency says it will install drop boards in Simeon Street Recreation Ground to turn the rec into a holding tank, if necessary – hopefully learning from mistakes made in October 2023.
Those who are vulnerable to flooding as a result of excess surface water in roads or poor drainage generally, as a precautionary measure, are advised to install flood protection before the rain begins. River levels and flood risk should reduce by 01:00 PM on Thursday 23/10/2025.
The wider community are being warned to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

“as a precautionary measure, are advised to install flood protection before the rain begins”
Hopefully that includes the IW Council and EA installing the flood boards at Simeon Recreation Park?
So, as not to have a repeat of 2023 – which is being debated at County Hall tomorrow.
What’s the betting with such bad weather conditions
numpties will still be speeding in wet conditions
“HOW DO YOU EDUCATE NUMPTIES TO SLOW DOWN”
I know it’s totally outrageous. We should fit speed bumps every two meters
And CCTV(‘)s
Great idea, lets slow the B’stards down.
With the possibility, could be, maybe of heavy rain , no one can say they were not warned, except the council of course who should but didnt have all their drain and gully cleaners out to help reduce the risks of flooding, mind you as in previous heavy rain events they manage to appear after the event.
Are you ok hun?
Ye didn’t really come to nothing..
Well what happened?
