The Cowes Floating Bridge service across the River Medina has been suspended this afternoon (Friday) – just as people head home at the end of the working week.
It was at around 16:30 that vehicles had to be reversed off Floating Bridge No.6 when the vessel came to a halt.
It is unclear at this time if a technical failure is to blame, or whether the tide fell quicker than expected.
The floaty is now high and dry on the East Cowes side of the river with the service suspected until further notice.

This lot managing the floater couldn’t hit water if they fell out the thing
Ummm, if it’s beached? Can you still call it a “floaty”? Asking for a friend
What about a raft
The floating bridge spends more time
out of action than in action.
They should retire it off, we will all
be quids in.
When is this Disaster of a Floating Bridge going to be Given Up On?
I know for a Fact that the Floating Bridge has Consistently Failed, for the past 28Yrs, FFS!!
This Liability Needs to be SUNK!!
oh just off with this turd..
I love the floating bridge. I use it 5 days a week and it saves me so much time and money.
It saves me having to take 2 buses to Cowes. Even when it is out of service for cars the jenny boat does a great job. Most people that complain about it don’t even use it. Staff are great and I save £5 per day and over an hour each way by using it.
Well said. And I love your moniker
I think the tide is pretty predictable.
perhaps they did not take into account the full moon coming up.
