The floating bridge has been withdrawn from service following a fault this afternoon (Thursday).
The Isle of Wight Council says the service will be suspended until repairs are complete – although the works aren’t expected to start until at least tomorrow.
A passenger launch is in operation.

sink the bloody thing
The works should start NOW !!! ..not tomorrow or next week or at your leisure…..why doesnt the council scumbags in charge, sell the bridge contract or ownership to a company that does care …?…
Forever getting on bridge and seeing some so called workers doing absolutley nothing ,,especially one in paticular….with tax payers money fluttering around theyre head ….
We need a bridge from Stag Lane to East Cowes for vehicles.
Keep the small boat crossing from Cowes to East Cowes for passengers.
This would also alleviate traffic to Newport.
Rather than continually wasting money on changing road operations to simply stall the queues into Newport, why don’t this council do something that would help two issues?
The Floating Bridge is continually out of service and cannot be relied upon by people that need to use it.
Well well well !!!!!
No surprise here then !!!!!
I feel everything has already been said about this total waste of money and space …..
Well what is the news about that then? Situation normal
I went on it at lunchtime for the first time ever having previously using the old chain ferry quite regularly, I jokingly said to the lady collecting our money ‘will it be working later’ she said should be !!!!!!!! Well the engine sounded quite strained & the amount of rust on it already !!! Bank holiday very very busy what a complete rust bucket this ferry is a complete pile of …. ! When will the Council admit this is a pile of junk.
Lol they can’t admit anything …
Just blame the old gang …
All as bad as each other …
What happened to the contractor who is supposed to keep it running?????
The Island’s embarrassing laughing stock strikes again. More of our hard earned money being wasted on this POS. STOP IT NOW IWC we are SICK of this.
Lack off power, when does it have any power
One day the headline will read “Floating bridge runs for 24 hours without breaking down”
Well well well are we supposed to be surprised that it’s out of action once again.Lack of power how come east comes residents all had power to their homes god help us if they ever decided to make it all electric ,but there again it wouldn’t have much effect on the local residents as it never runs more than three days a week so wouldn’t be to much of a drain on the local economy.
Has this tin can actually run for a whole month without breaking down even for 1 hour?
Just build a bridge already…jeeeeezus ffs… its actually a joke
All together now – “Here we go again …..”
When you report it, why not call out the manufacturer every time. They might be encouraged to do something about it!
