The Isle of Wight Hockey Club Men’s 1st XI got their first win in 12 months with a dominating performance against Trojans.
Starting at home on Saturday, Our Ladies 2XI welcomed Basingstoke 5s and, despite a goal from Siena Holbrook, the Island were unfortunate to lose 3-1.
The Men’s 1XI took to the Smallbrook turf to face Trojans 3XI. The Island got off to a flying start, netting 3 times in the first 15 minutes. After leading 3-0 at half-time, Trojans came out strong in the second half and tested the Island defence. After a diving save from Steph Boyd, Trojans managed to pinch a scrappy goal. Following this, the Island then came back strong and scored 2 more quick goals to confirm a 5-1 victory. Scorers: Joe Arnold (2), Samuel Challis (2), Adam Payne (1).

The Ladies 1XI travelled away to face Andover 1XI in a top of the table clash. The Island took longer the Andover to find their rhythm, and Andover took advantage and exploited some deflections to gain a quick 3 goal lead. The Island continued to battle and came closer to scoring through the efforts of Georgia Whittle. A goal line clearance from Emily Lord kept the deficit to 3 goals and the Island were unable to find a goal of their own despite their hard work and great team spirit.

The Mens 2XI travelled to face Chichester Chipmunks. Both sides started strong, with the Island finding Steve Holbrook who found the space to shoot and gave the Island the lead after just 3 minutes! Chichester reacted well and found their shooting sticks to score 3 quick goals in the first half. The Island applied more pressure and played some lovely hockey in the second half but were unable to find another goal of their own. Final Score: Chichester Chipmunks 3 – 1 IoW 2s
