UPDATED WITH VIDEO: Firefighters have this evening (Wednesday) successfully tackled a flat fire above a launderette in Ventnor.
Crews from Shanklin and Ventnor were called to the scene on Spring Hill at the junction with the High Street at just before 21:40, following reports of a blaze in a first floor flat.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have tackled the flames at the back of the building using two hose reels. It is understood they forced entry to the property.
It is believed one appliance from Newport was also called to the incident, however the crew were stood down before arriving on the scene.
UPDATE @ 22:45 – One crew from Shanklin have now left the scene, however firefighters remain at the property and Spring Hill remains closed.
Southern Vectis Route 3 buses are diverting locally.
UPDATE @ 22:59 – Fire crews have now stood down, bringing the incident to a close. Spring Hill has reopened in both directions.
