In an on-going dispute with the Government over pensions, members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) are set to strike on the first day of the Isle of Wight Festival following a series of strikes since September.
From 09:00 on Thursday until 09:00 on Friday fire cover will be reduced on the Island with all FBU firefighters striking. Non-FBU members will provide fire cover during this time and will attend life-critical incidents such as house fires or road traffic incidents. People should continue to dial 999 in an emergency.
The 24-hour strike also coincides with the start of the World Cup.
There will be further action on Saturday 21st June between 10:00 and 17:00.
