Firefighters were called to the outskirts of Newchurch last night after a pregnant cow became stuck in the River Yar.
The animal rescue unit from Newport and an appliance from Sandown were sent to the scene at Lower Knighton Road, Knighton shortly after 21:30, alongside a two-man crew from Ryde in the service’s Land Rover.
Thankfully, the cow and unborn calf were uninjured in the incident and crews were able to coax the animal down stream to a safe point for her to clamber out of the ditch with assistance.
At one point, the water was waist high.
Firefighters remained on the scene until 23:00.
