The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have deemed yesterday’s blaze in Cowes an accident following a thorough investigation today (Tuesday).
Island Echo believes the ‘accidental ignition’ occurred when sparks came into contact with fuel whilst a car was being worked on at TJ Motors, one of the 40 units situated at Medina Park. The fire quickly spread to adjoining properties, including a unit used by Cowes Carnival.
Firefighters have now left the scene but will return periodically to keep an eye on the remains of what was a flourishing industrial park. Many businesses have been left without stock, tools and a base in which to operate from.
At the height of the blaze 7 pumping appliances, 2 aerial appliances and support vehicles were tackling the blaze with Police, Southern Water, Southern Gas Networks, the British Red Cross and Island Roads all in attendance.
Roads have now been reopened in the surrounding area.
