UPDATED: Firefighters are this afternoon (Monday) tackling an out of control bonfire near Whitely Bank.
Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at Rill Farm on Canteen Road where a bonfire has become out of control, spreading to nearby hedges.
Fire crews were alerted to the incident at around 15:30 to step in to prevent any further damage. There is no risk to property, according to a Fire Service spokesperson.
Smoke can be seen in the area.
UPDATE @ 16:31 – Due to the intensity of the fire, a water tender from Ventnor Fire Station has been deployed to the scene.
UPDATE @ 16:50 – The fire has been successfully extinguished by fire crews from Newport and Shanklin. Damping down is now taking place.
