UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to rescue a horse in a field near Wroxall this evening (Thursday).
Crews from Ryde, Newport and Shanklin are in attendance at Cook’s Castle Farm off St John’s Road where a horse requires the specialist assistance of fire crews.
The Animal Rescue Unit from Newport is on scene alongside a Land Rover from Ryde and appliances from Newport and Shanklin.
The call for help came in at just before 18:50.
UPDATE @ 20:08 – Fire crews are now standing down from the incident having successfully rescued the horse.
The fallen animal has been helped onto level ground by firefighters, according to the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
A vet has attended the incident.
UPDATE @ 21:45 – Sadly, the horse has been put to sleep by the vet.
