UPDATED: Fire crews from across the Island are currently attending a roof fire at a property in Reed Street, Ryde.
Appliances from Ryde, Sandown, Bembridge and two appliances from Newport, as well as the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Ryde and the Command Unit from Newport, were called to the scene off of the High Street in Oakfield shortly after 15:30.
Island Echo understand that the blaze started in a property currently undergoing maintenance work before it spread to an adjoining roof space.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have also attended the scene alongside Police, however thankfully no persons have been injured in the incident.
Smoke caused by the fire, which was described as ‘well alight’ by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, spread across several roads in the town with zero visibility in Lower Highland Road.
Firefighters forced entry to the property and have used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to control the blaze. Crews are continuing to search for hot spots in the roof of the properties by using the ALP to reach the top of the building.
