UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are this afternoon (Wednesday) in attendance at BAE Systems in Cowes where a worker has become stuck in a cherry picker at a height of around 10 metres.
One appliance from Newport Fire Station was called to the incident at the defence company shortly before 16:10, later requesting the assistance of an aerial appliance – the Bronto Skylift.
It is understood the male worker is not in any immediate danger, but is unable to descend in a normal and safe manner having damaged the machine’s hydraulics.
UPDATE @ 17:56 – The cherry picker, on hire to a contractor from HSS Hire in Newport, suffered a hydraulic failure.
As a precaution, the assistance of the Fire Service was advised to bring the man to safety.
No one has been injured.
