Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have tackled a fire at a car sales lot in Newport overnight.
Firefighters from Newport Fire Station turned out to reports of a blaze at Quay Car Sales in Little London just before 02:00, where it was discovered the sales office – a single story building – was well alight.
Crews used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to successfully extinguish the fire before leaving the scene 40 minutes later.
Police were called to the incident and an investigation into the cause of the fire is set to get underway this morning. Suspicious circumstances have not been ruled out.
A short while later, it was another double turnout for Newport Fire Station when they got a a second call to a fire at HMP Isle of Wight in as many days.
Crews were alerted to a fire at Albany prison at just after 04:45, however the fire was out upon arrival. It follows a mattress fire at Parkhurst prison yesterday (Monday).
