Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have this morning (Thursday) attended Ryde Rowing Club following fears a fire had begun in the clubhouse.
Crews from Ryde Fire Station were called to the scene at Appley just before 09:30 after alarms inside the club’s building activated.
Upon arrival, firefighters could detect a strong smell of burning, however it was quickly established the smell was coming from a nearby work site. A visual inspection around the building was carried out.
Key holders were alerted to the situation and arrived at the club to allow firefighters entry to the building for a further inspection.
Crews have now left the scene after it was confirmed no fire was present.
