Smoke seen rising from the derelict Parkbury Hotel has seen fire crews rush to Sandown this morning (Wednesday).
It was just before 09:40 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to a potential blaze developing at the once-popular hotel on Broadway.
Appliances from Sandown and Shanklin are on scene, but fears of another arson attack have been quickly alleviated.
Firefighters have been able to confirm that the alarm has been triggered by a controlled bonfire within the grounds of the Parkbury.
With no action needed, fire crews are preparing to stand down from the incident.

Well to be honest, all these hotels were popular once otherwise they wouldn’t have been built.
There are too many people lighting fires on the
Island, think of the damage being done to the climate.
All that pollution!
Bless
Bless you too
Amen
If a bonfire caused the false alarm at the Parkbury does this mean the Public now pay for the gardening as well as its security ??
