UPDATED: Two fire appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a pre-school in Wootton this morning (Friday) following reports of a strong smell of burning.
Firefighters from Ryde are conducting a search of the Little Heron’s pre-school at Wootton Primary School on Church Road. They were called to the scene at around 11:45.
A thermal imaging camera is being used to check for any signs of fire due to a smell of burning plastic coming from the disabled toilet.
UPDATE @ 13:45 – A spokesperson for Little Heron’s has confirmed that the call to the fire service was a precautionary measure and that no evacuation was necessary on this occasion.
An electrician has been called and will be on site later today to check for the likely cause of the burning smell.
Having carried out a full investigation of the premises, no fire was found and firefighters have now left the scene.
