Road closures are in force in parts of Cornwall Street, Esplanade, The Strand, Simeon Street and Mary Mead Close in Ryde this morning while fire crews assist the Enviornment Agency by pumping excess water from Monktonmead Brook.
This comes after the Environment Agency warned residents of potential flooding in the area last night due to a mechanical failure on one of the pumps at Monktonmead Pumping Station.
A flood alert has also been issued for the Eastern Yar this morning.
UPDATE @ 09:20 – Water levels have dropped at Monktonmead however fire crews using a high volume pump remain on the scene assisting the Environment Agency.
It is believed the broken pump which was taken away from the pumping station at Ryde Esplanade last night has been repaired and is on its way back to the Island, to be reinstalled later today.
UPDATED @ 14:30 – All partial road closures in Ryde have been removed and fire crews have stopped additional pumping at Monktonmead.
UPDATED @ 15:40 SATURDAY – The broken pump at Monktonmead Pumping Station, Ryde has been repaired and is fully operational once again
