UPDATED: One pumping appliance from Ryde Fire Station is currently tackling a chimney fire at a property in Argyll Street.
Crews are using a hose reel to extinguish the small fire, which has ignited on the ground floor in the chimney stack.
A thermal imaging camera is also being used to check for any remaining hotspots.
UPDATE @ 19:48 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have deployed a skylift aerial ladder to the scene to assist crews in tackling the blaze, which is still burning inside the chimney.
The road has been closed this evening to all traffic to allow firefighters to safely extinguish the fire.
No one has been injured in the incident.
UPDATE @ 23:30 – Argyll Street has now reopened to traffic.
