Cowes Sports FC has set up a GoFundMe page to support defender Ryan Oatley, who was seriously injured in a Wessex Premier game against Moneyfields in early April. Ryan fell onto a fence head-first and requires 2 teeth extractions, a bone graft and 2 implants to return to the position he was in before the accident. Altogether, the cost of treatment is believed to be in excess of £7,000. Cowes Sports FC says:
“On Tuesday 2nd April 2024 our away trip to Moneyfields FC had an incredibly unfortunate incident where our Ryan got severely injured after tripping into the surrounding fence face-first. “At the time, it was difficult to understand the severity of the injury, but after weeks of waiting to learn the outcome, it was discovered that Ryan needs 2 teeth extracting, a bone graft as it’s completely fractured at the root, as well as temporary bridge fitting and 2 implants. Overall, this is a long process, without 100% confidence that it will allow him to get back to where he was before. “Now, unfortunately, Ryan is in a position where he is facing a £7,000 bill to have all of this essential work carried out. His quality of life has changed overnight where the simple daily tasks of eating and sleeping are affected. “You may have noticed how quiet he has been over the last 2 games in the Gold Cup, where he’s had a specially fitted gum shield made to be able to protect himself, but still with 6-7 weeks gone from the date of the incident, life isn’t the same at all. “We are hoping that you can join our efforts as a club and offer your support to get Ryan the financial backing he needs to complete the essential work, so he can get back to living his life without pain. “We believe that no-one should be volunteering their time to represent a local football club and have to suffer because of one single accidental moment.”
Anyone wishing to donate towards Ryan’s surgery may do so here.

So this clown wants people to fund his private cosmetic dentistry. Good luck with that one.
Surely the home side would have insurance for instances like this, surely a claim on their policy should suffice!?
At the very least, there should have been Public Liability Insurance!
I’ve heard it all now! So this bloke has hurt himself playing a pointless sport and now wants others to pay for him to have his teeth sorted! Jog on son! Plenty of other worthy things to donate too.
Absolutely pathetic this go fund me craze. Man up and pay for it yourself, shall we hold your hand through out your life?. In sport you can have accidents like I did playing cricket many years ago but I didn’t go around with a begging bowl.
Lucky you.
Most of the damage can be rectified by the national health sevice whether by a dentist or a reconstruction surgeon, why does he need a go fund me
Because he wants to go full Rylan Clark. He must be getting it done in Turkey because a single tooth implant is £3k plus in the UK.
What is happening in this crazy world, people want
everything for nothing.
God you people are horrible good job this wasnt your son but of course youd have thousands spare in your back pockets
This begging trend is shameful and pathetic. Stand on your own two feet and pay your own way in life.
“Your son” – oh dear poor diddums hurt his mouth and mummy is cross that strangers won’t pay to get his teeth fixed in Turkey.
Having a laugh wanting Turkey teeth and expect Joe Mugg to pay for it all.
No way we say, you fell over playing a game, get them to pay, or pay for it yourself.
What next.? A courier crashed his van taking part in the Sandown sprint and needs 50 large to buy a new one before Monday when he needs it for work..ooh yes let’s donate towards his foolishness..
Good old private dentistry costing a bloody fortune. There ARE no nhs dentists! Try getting one!
This should be available on the NHS!! That’s what we are paying for!! Poor bloke… Interesting comment about club insurance, though. That needs to be investigated…
I’ll support him with a blowie.
Insurance!
Even if he doesn’t have personal insurance to cover it, the club must have.
Claim on that instead of begging.
