32-year-old Lauren McIntyre, a former prison officer at HMP Isle of Wight, has been jailed for 3 years following a sexually intimate relationship with a convicted murderer behind the walls of Albany prison.
McIntyre, a ‘devoted’ mum-of-3, will tonight spend her first night behind bars after being convicted of offences relating to misconduct in a public office. She previously admitted 4 counts of being a holder of a public office and wilfully neglecting to perform her duty/wilfully misconducting herself.
As previously reported by Island Echo, McIntyre, of St John’s Wood Road in Ryde, had a sexual relationship with Andrew Roberts, who was convicted in 2003 of killing his own daughter and his girlfriend. Although sexual intercourse did not take place, the relationship involved touching – an activity which, by McIntyre’s own acknowledgment, was ‘f***ing risky’.
As well as having sexual relations with a prisoner, the local mum is said to have failed to report her knowledge that Roberts was in possession of a mobile phone and provided him with her personal mobile phone number. Furthermore, she communicated with the killer via mobile phone, exchanging texts, and even supplied him with a copy of her photograph.
McIntyre also attempted to facilitate the transfer of money from the prisoner into her bank account. It is also reported that she sanctioned the beating, by Roberts, of fellow Prison Officer Samuel Laidler. Lauren is also alleged to have provided Roberts with Laidler’s personal mobile number and that she took no steps to warn the Prison Officer or the prison authorities of the impending beating.
Lauren McIntyre is a keen runner and former member of Ryde Harriers.
McIntyre was sentenced at the Isle of Wight Crown Court earlier today by Judge Roger Hetherington. She will serve half of her 3-year sentence behind bars and the other half on licence.
Andrew Roberts was sentenced to 2 life sentences after he murdered his girlfriend and their 8-month-old daughter in Wales back in 2003.
