FELIX HETHERINGTON HANDED 4-YEAR SENTENCE ON HIS BIRTHDAY AFTER LEAVING MAN WITH BLEED ON THE BRAIN

28-year-old Felix Hetherington has been handed a 4-year prison sentence – 2 of which will be served behind bars – for a vicious attack that left a man with a bleed on the brain.

Hetherington, of St Edmund’s Walk in Wootton, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm without intent last November and now, more than 2 years after he badly beat his victim, he has appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing.

It was on 21st February 2021 that emergency services  were called to a property off Caesars Road in Newport where a man was discovered laying in an unconscious state with blood running from his nose, mouth and ears.

Article continues below this advertisement

The victim, aged in his 50s, was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition and underwent emergency surgery after it was discovered he had a bleed on the brain and abdominal trauma. The victim also sustained a fractured wrist, cheek and jaw.

Enquiries led police to Felix Hetherington being arrested for the assault. A total of 5 people were arrested, 2 on suspicion of attempted murder.

Today, Recorder Malcolm Gibney handed down a 4-year prison sentence, with Hetherington to serve 2 years behind bars and a further 2 years on license.

DC Ed Stenning from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:

Article continues below this advertisement

“This was a shocking and brutal assault which very nearly killed a man.

“Had it not been for the efforts of paramedics and medical staff at the hospital, the victim in this case would not have survived the injuries he sustained.

“The level of violence perpetrated by Hetherington was appalling, and I hope his conviction sends a strong message to our communities that violence is simply unacceptable, and there are serious consequences for those that harm others in this way.”

This scum gets a two year prison sentence, (pathetic I know), yet that scum from Bembridge who viciously assaulted his ex partner gets a mere 23 month suspended sentence. Where’s the sense in that?

I recognise mental health as a condition that can cause people to act in a certain way but it is used all to often that its hard to know whether it is a legitimate claim or an attempt to justify his actions. What I know is someone nearly lost there life which is inexcusable. If you know him well you may know the cause of his mental health eg drugs upbringing etc or whether he is just a bully….but to nearly kill someone….there is no justification

I get that people suffer from mental heath issues but unfortunately other people should not have to pay the price for their lack of support or spiraling behavior I don’t think it should even be taken into consideration. A crime is a crime if meant or not its still committed and there is still a victim who has to live with what they have had to go through. I’m sure if he had been attacked in a brutal way like this by another person who had was just having a mental breakdown through no fault of his own you’d have different things to say

Lots of people have mental health problems but are not violent. Saying he has mental health problems is not an excuse for violence.

Fair enough excuse to nearly kill someone then.
Was with a friend in Mansfield and he kicked the shit out of a random bloke. Blinded him in 1 eye, could of killed him and got the same 2 year sentence.
Been in and out ever since, never had a job just sells drugs. Absolutely lovely chap, you should meet him. Had a tough up bringing, suffered with “mental health”.
You can tell the scum from a mile away, luckily I stayed away from the pr**k after that night, very easy to get sucked into that lifestyle as alot of my other good friends did. A few are dead and others are drug addicts all because of that d##k.
Should be locked away for good this type.
Rant over

lame excuse for a violent, degenerate, drunken, lowlife…..let’s get it straight…we in society don’t want filthy violent p ricks around, at all, ever.

either that loser, educates himself and becomes a decent member of society or he disappears for good, so we don’t have to put up with the moronic tool

Mental health or lack of it is the go to defence for anyone these days who appears in court for any offence, for that reason alone no one believes it anymore, as for spiralling without support, what did he do to engage with mental health services, actually very little, with that level of violence he should be in Broadmoor for an extended period or until the experts can predict he is no longer a threat to the general public.

If they started sending people to asylums again I’m sure the whole “mental health issues” would soon vanish from the list of excuses.

Nobody knows the full details of this case. Everybody is keen to make their ignorant comments without being fully aware. I am his mother and have been involved throughout so please be mindful before jumping on the gossip bandwagon.

Hardly gossip when a man nearly dies and your son was responsible for it. No excuse for such appalling actions. Going straight to hell.

So he would have died if the paramedics didn’t do all they could(well done paramedics and doctors/nurses)
And this SCUMBAG gets 4 years but 2 of them on licence
The judge is just as bad as him.
4 years indeed

Genuinely sad for the guy, he had actually worked hard since the incident to get his life back on track. Seemed like a decent chap. Hopefully he can continue to make personal progress once he’s out. Sometimes, it is a shame when once single incident causes so many deep consequesnces. Of course I am not condemning his actions, who knows, he could have bene provoked for all we know. Just hope he can keep a cool head for his life ahead.

If this is your idea of ‘decent’ then I cannot fathom for a moment what you class as ‘bad’. Unbelievable.

No one knows the true circumstances of this case so why’s everyone jumping on the gossip bandwagon. He’s done the crime and he’s paying for it now. So have you all not got anything better to do than gossip oh wait !
most of you are probably benefit bums and keyboard warriors !!!!

Perhaps you should aim your anger at the people that post the article, as if it wasn’t for them then no judgements/opinions/gossip would be had.

However, for this lad to have caused a bleed on the brain and abdominal bleeding, he must’ve had some force behind him. A little scuffle does not cause that type of injury.

When you commit such crimes, you have to be prepared to face the music and unfortunately, you will be judged.

We don’t know the full circumstances of why this happened. But if that was your father or brother who got beat half to death blood coming out of his nose and ears and had a bread on the brain and nearly died would you still be saying the same thing? Some how I doubt it.

I fully understand that people may have their opinions on this case. But as always you only have oneside of the story.
This young man is not the the person he was several years ago. He has shown an amazing attitude towards work and has put the effort to change his life completely.
I am proud to say I know him and have worked along side him and have seen the giant strides he has made in his life.

Nothing onesided about this, he almost killed another human whose loved ones could have been traumatised for the rest of their lives, he could have left his children without a father…..The only giant strides he has mad is into prison where he belongs….

What about his victim? Is he all fully recovered, living life like nothing happened? Some how I very much doubt it, and I wonder just how much support he’s had since, probly no where near as much as all the hand wringers are doing on here for a nasty violent scumbag.

Key details are left out in order to sell the story. Yes people are initialed to have their own opinion and express them. Personally I prefer to know the whole story before I make any form of comment. Like I said details are left out, for instance – how do you know that the head bleed wasn’t caused by a fall before the incident? The answer is you won’t because that doesn’t sell.
Unless YOU are directly involved you will not have ALL the story.

Well the other main news source reports this.
“He suffered a bleed between his skull and brain, fractures to his jaw, a misalignment of his lower spine, and a significant bleed in his abdomen. ”

I guess he got all those injuries falling over did he?
It goes on “He said a witness said they saw Hetherington kick the victim in the face while he was on the floor.”

And “The witness said, as she attempted to drag the victim out of the window and onto the flat roof, Hetherington stamped on his chest.”

Your friend deserves alot longer in prison.

Two ****** years for assaulting someone nearly twice his age and nearly killing him. How about 25 years and no parole. He will be about the age of his victim when he gets out. Justice!

unless the victim was in his ‘bubble’ this tosser was also not obeying the social distancing recommendations at the time, clearly also shows scant regard for public health measures as well. Glad the book was thrown at him as he could have transmitted covid as well.

Love how it doesn’t mention how he does boxing and other combat sports, then brags to everyone on the island that he’s a “professional”… professional muppet.
Honestly, 2 years in is not enough, if this was mainland he would of easily got a 7 stretch.

And plus he is known as a bully anyway, only attacks people who don’t fight back, now it’s time for you to be the “punch bag”.

Good riddance.

Ps fuck his mental health.
