FALLEN CABLES CLOSE FRESHWATER ROAD

20140108-095404.jpgUPDATED: Police and Island Roads operatives have closed a section of School Green Road in Freshwater this morning (Wednesday) after a vehicle collided with a pole, bringing power cables down onto the carriageway.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area with locals reporting gridlocked roads. The road is closed between Moa Place and The Co-Operative, according to Island Roads.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have also attended the incident.

HGVs have been permitted to use Bouldnor Road whilst the closure is in place.

powercablesfreshwater2UPDATE @ 11:00 – Southern and Scottish Energy have cut power supplies to 8 residential properties on School Green Road for safety reasons.

The scene has been made safe and work is now underway to make urgent repairs to restore power to all affected properties.

Island Echo understands a lorry collided with the pole shortly before 09:30.

Meanwhile, Morton Common in Sandown has reopened after several days of being closed due to flooding.

UPDATE @ 14:40 – School Green Road has now fully re-opened, according to Island Roads.
