A fallen cable hanging low above the carriageway has forced the closure of Brading Downs Road this evening (Sunday).
Firefighters from Sandown are currently on scene at Bully’s Hill having been alerted to the obstruction at around 18:30.
Initially it was feared that the cable was a live electricity supply, but it has since been ascertained that it is in fact a telephone cable.
Police have closed the road at the junction with Ashey and Mersley Downs, whilst the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have established a closure at the other end of the Downs at the junction of The Mall.
BT Openreach engineers have been called to rectify the issue, thought to have been caused by high winds.
