A man who posed as a DPD delivery driver to fraudulently collect parcels from High Street shops in Newport has been ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay over £600 in compensation.
27-year-old Alexandru Moldoveanu, of Saturn Close in Southampton, but orignally from Romania, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 4th November.
At the hearing, the court heard how Moldoveanu targeted a series of stores on the Isle of Wight in March this year, repeatedly pretending to be a courier driver in an attempt to collect valuable electrical items he was not entitled to.
He first visited the CEX store on St James’ Street on 4th March, followed by 2 visits to the EE store on the High Street on 4th and 5th March, and later returned to CEX again on 6th March. On 11th March, he targeted the O2 shop further down Newport High Street.
Each time, he falsely claimed to be from DPD and attempted to take delivery parcels from staff.
In total, Moldoveanu successfully made off with several items worth a combined £670, including mobile phones and other electronics.
He had originally been due to enter pleas in October, but the case was adjourned to allow for a Romanian interpreter to be booked. When he returned to court this month, he pleaded guilty to 6 counts of fraud by false representation under the Fraud Act 2006.
Magistrates handed Moldoveanu a 12-month community order with 150 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £670 in compensation, £85 court costs and a £114 surcharge.
What a poxy sentence, no deterrent at all. Bloody laughing at us all. No justice
So, is he going to be deported?

Probably be made a minister of some sort with starmer in charge

If he can tell store staff that he is a DPD and convince them to hand over stock he doesn’t need an interpreter.
They knew he wasn’t a legit driver because he turned up on time.

Like everyone else I’m sick and tired of hearing/ reading about low life’s that come to our country and think they can do whatever they like, our justice system should be ashamed. It sickens me that the court knows he can speak English because that’s how he was operating ffs but instead of common sense they still pandered to him and wasted yet more British people’s money getting an interpreter. These idiots take the piss out of us more than he did!. What the F hell is going on . I despair. We are all doomed
