A total of 4 people were prevented from voting, in a by-election last month (December) on the Isle of Wight, because they had no photo ID. On 21st December, Conservative Ed Blake secured 274 votes, with Labour’s Steve Cooper, mayor of Ventnor, finishing 2nd, with 248 votes. The Liberal Democrat’s Ray Harrington-Vail came in 3rd place with 145 votes. Fewer than a quarter of those eligible to vote turned out and 669 ballot papers out of a possible 2,987 were received — a 22.4 per cent turnout. The Isle of Wight Council has revealed 10 people were refused a ballot paper, due to having incorrect or no ID. Of those, 6 returned with documentation and went on to vote. In 2023, the government introduced a requirement for photo ID, saying it wanted to crack down on voter fraud. This was the second time it applied to an election on the Isle of Wight – the first was the by-election in Wootton Bridge in August. A valid photo ID can be your bus pass, passport or driver’s licence, even if it has expired, as long as the photo looks like you.

Personally I will not be voting.
Since 2020 I have seen what a shower of sh*t Politicians are,
they do not represent us, they just worry about themselves.
People are struggling and all we keep hearing is they give themselves
large pay increases.
Every year they keep increasing our Council tax
Look at the Post Office Scandal they have let persons down and
rewarded the management of the Post Office.
Voting is the last thing I would do.
If you don’t vote, you are condoning their behaviour, and you are showing you are happy with the status quo.

My vote and your vote won’t change anything, some people think by
voting things will change, they won’t!, so why waste my time going to the

If you feel that way at least register your views by getting a ballot paper and writing your own message on it.

So if you’re 18 and because money you have no driving licence and no passport you don’t get to vote. This is the thin edge of the wedge as they start to increase the requirements needed to be allowed to vote.
Stop making feeble excuses, you can easily get a letter of identification the the council that allows you your democratic rights.
I don’t like this system either but if you know anyone in that situation encourage them to apply for the free voter ID pass to show at elections.
Good job too, everything went to shit after they gave the vote to none property owners and women.

I usually disagree with ID; but when you have 20 Muhammad’s voting multiple times for their dodgy Labour MP’s in Bradford, Birmingham and the likes.. it’s actually in most Brits favour now…
