Police are conducting a thorough search of a property in Wootton this afternoon (Monday) after a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary descended on a residential address on Mary Rose Avenue earlier today, with officers positioned at both the front and back of the mid-terraced property.
Shortly before lunchtime, officers clad in forensic suits were seen coming and going from the address – with a Police Search Advisor also in attendance.
It has now been confirmed that officers are quizing a 30-year-old man on suspicion of 2 serious offences, namely possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose and possession of a knife in a public place.
He remains in custody at Southampton Central Police Station at this time.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Officers will remain at the address while a thorough search is conducted.
“Anyone with any information or concerns can speak to one of our uniformed officers at the scene.
UPDATE ON TUESDAY – The arrested male has since been bailed until 1st May pending further enquiries.
