Bomb disposal experts were called to Monks Bay near Ventnor earlier this evening (Monday) after concerns were raised about a potential explosive device – but upon inspection the object was discovered to be a tent pole.
The Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team from Portsmouth were called to an area of coast off Shore Road in Bonchurch at around 17:00, after an unidentified object was discovered by a member of the public and reported to HM Coastguard.
Believing the potential ordnance to be 30″x8″ big, a diving team were tasked to the Island and arrived on the scene at 19:45, however it was soon determined that the object was non-ordnance and believed to be a tent pole. No action was taken.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were present at the scene for public safety however have now returned to station.
