A crash between a motorcycle and a car on one of the main roads in and out of Newport has led to an emergency response from police, firefighters and paramedics this evening (Tuesday).
The road traffic collision has occurred on Fairlee Road, outside Medina College, with the road now partially blocked.
Island Echo understands a motorcyclist lays injured on the road following the crash, which occurred shortly before 18:25.
Southern Vectis says Route 5 and 9 buses are diverting via Staplers Road until further notice.
Fairlee Road is currently open but under police direction, with a give and take system in operation. As a result, traffic is backing out heading out of Newport.
UPDATED – The scene has now been cleared.
One person has sustained an arm injury.

I’ve seen so many people letting folks out in one direction and the opposite direction has to hit the brakes because the person being let out of the school doesn’t look. It should be left turn only out of there. Hope all involved are not too badly injured.
Every week there seems to be an accident involving a
motorcycle, yesterday I was driving in Newport and
an L Plate scooterist went across my lane in
Morrison store, fortunately i had a feeling this was going to
happen the way they went round the corner into
M&S / Morrison Car Park so I swerved to avoid them.
It is time all Motorcyclists and scooterists passed their
tests.
So the 5th motorcycle accident in a month possibly more I lost track. Im not a fan of more police presence or people blaming car drivers but clearly a problem with motorcycle drivers. Im sure everyone has seen them driving perfect, in their lanes, never making a permanent third lane to pass and you never hear them reving engine and speeding down the road even though your 2 miles away. Either way its bad enough with crazy drivers then adding in motorbikes, road construction etc we are doomed
How many car accidents in the same time frame?
Most dangerous roads in Britain
Dare I bring up the fact that the motorcyclist was pulled out on? Or does that still not matter and has to be the error of the motorcyclist for not suspecting an ignorant car driver would pull out.
Maybe car drivers should be more observant, and stop pulling infront / cutting up motorcyclist.
Maybe the motorcyclist lies injured, unles he’s some kind of bord.
More bad driving on the Iow
There are only two types of motorcyclist… one that has had a bad accident, and one that has yet to.
They think they have 9 lives, they DON’T!
I get paid over $220 per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. i never thought i’d be able to do it but my best friend earns over 15k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. the potential with this is endless…,
