Isle of Wight firm WBS has gone into liquidation, bringing an end to more than 40 years of local trading.
The Newport-based business, located on Daish Way, ceased operations this week with a notice on the premises confirming that the company is now in the hands of the official receiver.
The doors have been chained shut with a warning that it is a criminal offence to remove anything from within the building.
Established in 1982, Wight Business Services supplied a wide range of office products including stationery, furniture, computers and photocopiers.
Although most of its customer base was on the Isle of Wight, WBS also served customers across the UK.
Island Echo understands a winding-up petition, put forward by Exertis UK, was heard in court in Manchester on Tuesday.
4 employees are thought to have lost their jobs, with no prior notification reportedly given by the company director.
It is sad that another company closes but I must
say they done well to trade for 44 years.
Nowdays Supermarkets, Amazon and stores like Home Bargains
etc sell stationery so much cheaper.

According to Companies House, Wight Business Services Limited was established in February 2024 and has only ever produced dormant company accounts. Sole Director Gary Smith, issued capital £1. Were they previously a sole tradership?

It’s a ahame to see a well known IW company having to close. I’ve had many dealings with them over the years.
