ISLAND WOMAN DIES IN YARMOUTH COLLISION


yarmouthrtcmapUPDATED: A 28-year-old woman has died following a serious road traffic collision near Yarmouth.  

Three fire appliances, Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene on the A3054 Bouldnor Road near to Hill Place Lane last night (Friday), after receiving reports of a collision shortly after 21:30.

The 28-year-old female from Totland, who was driving a blue Daihatsu Quore, was rushed to hospital by land ambulance after being cut free from the wreckage of her vehicle by firefighters, however, unfortunately later died as a result of her injuries.

A 26-year-old male from Newport, who was driving a second vehicle – a red Citroen Xsara – was also taken to hospital, however is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.

The road was closed overnight in both directions, with motorists diverting through Wellow and Thorley. Southern Vectis’ Route 7 service has now resumed a normal route after the road was reopened just before 08:00 this morning (Saturday).

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Sergeant Lynch at the Road Deaths Investigation Unit by calling 101 and quoting Operation Bach.
