EMERGENCY SERVICES ATTEND CULVER INCIDENT

sandownfirethedownsUPDATED: Emergency services have this evening attended an incident on Culver Down near Yaverland.

IslandEcho understand a male fell from his bike while riding on the down when using his mobile phone, slightly injuring his foot.

The unknown male called for the assistance of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and in turn, Police and Ambulance crews were called to the scene.

There was confusion as to the situation at first with initial reports fearing the man had gone over the cliff edge.

Rescue teams from Bembridge Coastguard were deployed to the cliff side, however were thankfully not required.

One fire appliance from Sandown turned out to the incident shortly before 21:20.

UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have this morning confirmed that a 22-year-old from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was taken into custody at Newport Police Station, where he remains this morning.
