A road closure has been put in place on Upton Road in Ryde this afternoon (Monday) to allow for an emergency gas escape.
Southern Gas Networks are carrying out works near the junction with Mitchells Road.
Upton Road is closed from Mitchells Road to Butts Road for a distance of 21 metres, meaning that motorists are having to divert via Bettsworth Road, Ashey Road and Carters Road in both directions.
It is unknown how long the road will remain closed for.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 12:00 – Upton Road has now re-opened in both directions.

Perhaps it would be easier for Island Echo to report when this road is open and we can just assume it is closed for some reason or another the rest of the time!
