EXCLUSIVE: Emergency services have this evening (Sunday) attended a medical emergency in Colwell Bay, prompting the assistance of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Island Echo understands a currently unknown person jumped from a vessel into the sea, leading to suspected spinal injuries. Witnesses have described that the water is currently shallow, around waist height.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue team, paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police all rushed to the scene on Colwell beach shortly before 17:15 before transferring the casualty to the awaiting land ambulance. The air ambulance, that had landed on the village’s grassed common area, was not required.
The patient, believed to be a male, has been taken by land ambulance to St Mary’s hospital for assessment.
