Emergency services are rushing over to the scene of a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles between Ventnor and Whitwell this morning (Tuesday).
The crash, involving at least 3 cars, has occurred on Whitwell Road at the junction with St Lawrence Shute.
Significant damage has been caused to the Ford Focus and Skoda Fabia involved, but the extent of any injuries sustained is currently unknown.
The smash happened at around 08:20.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has mobilised at least 2 ambulances from Newport, with Police also responding to the scene.
Access to St Lawrence Shute is blocked but the main road connecting Ventnor to Whitwell remains open.
UPDATE @ 09:09 – Whitwell Road has now been closed in both directions.
All motorists heading in and out of Ventnor must now divert via Shanklin, due to the closure at Wroxall for roadworks.
UPDATE @ 11:05 – Police have confirmed that 1 person sustained minor injuries in the crash, involving 3 vehicles.
The road has now reopened.
Significant damage? Only means one thing, significant speed.

I would like to see the want to be Island Mayor, island MPs
and leader of the Council drive along this island road plus many
more island Roads, eg Briddlesford Road, Military Road and
Beachfield Road to name a few and see how dangerous these roads
are.
They are the people who can make our roads a safe place.
Speed cameras and speed humps need placing along such roads.
20mph is plenty it has made many mainland locations and the
big smoke a much safer place for everyone.
I hardy use Whitwell Road due to speeding vehicles
nearly pushing other vehicles into the banks.
This is a very narrow road in parts and doesn’t have white
centre road markings, not that, that stops motorists
speeding.

What it really means is Numpty motorists should
drive slower because the road isn’t wide enough
to pass freely.
Too many large vehicles drive along such roads
too fast with no consideration to other motorists.
