Emergency services have been called to Newport Quay this morning (Friday) following the discovery of a body on the River Medina.
Police were alerted to the discovery shortly after 10:30 this morning, quickly mobilising several units to Seaclose.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has sent 2 pumping appliances from Newport to the scene, alongside several resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
A cordon has been erected around a wooded area behind Beefeater.
HM Coastguard Rescue Teams have arrived on the scene to assist in the recovery operation, with a harbour patrol boat currently patrolling the water.
UPDATE @ 13:29 – A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 10:23 this morning to a report that the body of a man had been discovered in the water at Medina Quay in Newport.
“Enquiries are in their early stages to establish what happened.”

Not resources wasted. They need to determine when and how this person passed I’m sure if it was a loved one of yours you would want to know.
I hope who ever discovered this person and those at the scene will be offered the support they need.
I’m sure you wont be saying that if it was a loved one of yours, How do you expect to recover the body without the assistance of these wonderful people
I think you will find certain tasks have a number of personnel required to carry out these tasks., And for this one its more than you can fit on 1 appliance
