UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are attending a road traffic collision on Brading Downs this evening (Tuesday).

The road has been closed in both directions as fire crews work to free the occupant of the single vehicle.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Bully’s Hill at around 18:45, with 2 appliances from Ryde and Sandown and the rescue tender from Newport mobilised to the scene. An ambulance and ambulance service officer are also in attendance.

UPDATE @ 19:14 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to the scene and has landed in a field close to the incident.

The casualty, who is understood to be a male, was trapped inside the vehicle but has now been freed by firefighters. No other persons have been involved.

HEMS doctors and paramedics are working alongside local paramedics to assess the patient’s condition.

UPDATE @ 19:59 – The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has conveyed the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital by land. Thankfully, his injuries are not as serious as first feared.

It appears the vehicle – a Seat Arosa – was travelling towards Brading when it left the carriageway, struck a post and came to rest on the wrong side of the road.

Brading Down Road remains closed in both directions whilst recovery of the car takes place.

UPDATE @ 20:40 – The road has now re-opened in both directions following recovery of the vehicle by Stag Lane Motors.
