UPDATED: Emergency services, including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Carisbrooke tonight (Thursday).
2 fire appliances and a rescue tender from Newport are on scene alongside Police and Paramedics at Whitcombe Road, near the junction with Froglands Lane. They were called at just before 22:15.
It is thought 2 vehicles have been involved in the incident. It is feared persons are trapped.
The road has been closed in both directions.
UPDATE @ 23:32 – A woman has been cut free from her vehicle – a red Vauxhall Adam – and has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital. A second person, the driver of a Peugeot 3008, has also been taken to hospital.
Thankfully, neither driver has sustained any life-threatening injuries.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have stood down from the incident and all 3 appliances have now returned to station.
Meanwhile, Stag Lane Motors are recovering the 2 vehicles and operatives from Island Roads are clearing debris from the carriageway.
The road is expected to reopen shortly.
