davidgreenUPDATED THURSDAY: Eco Island CEO and founder David Green has been found dead, it has been confirmed. 

It is believed Mr Green unfortunately took his own life yesterday afternoon at his home in Woodvale Road, Gurnard. The death is not being treated as suspicious by police.

His death comes after Hampshire Constabulary arrested a 52-year-old man last week, believed to be David Green, as part of an investigation in Eco Island for an unaccounted sum of £115,000 which was granted as part of the ‘Green Deal’ scheme in which the Isle of Wight Council awarded Eco Island £240,000 of public money.

Ecoisland CIC was set up in 2011 by Mr Green stemming from a personal interest in sustainability.

UPDATE @ 13:45 –  It has been confirmed this afternoon that Hampshire Constabulary’s Professional Standards Department has referred the death of Mr Green to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

UPDATE THURSDAY – An inquest into David Green’s death has been opened and adjourned today.

The inquest has heard how Mr Green was found dead in his back garden on Monday afternoon by his wife.

The cause of death was asphyxiation by hanging.
