Isle of Wight East MP, Joe Robertson, has spoken in the House of Commons chamber for the first time addressing the situation with a lack of NHS dentists. He chose his moment to speak from the green benches during oral questions to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting. Called by the speaker during questions on NHS dentistry, Mr Robertson said:
“As the Right Honourable Gentleman is aware there is a particular shortage of NHS dentists in coastal and rural communities like in constituencies such as mine on the Isle of Wight. Will he therefore today commit to the previous government’s plan for 240 golden hellos for newly qualified dentists by the end of the year to address this issue.”
Mr Streeting welcomed Mr Robertson to the House of Commons and replied:
“Mr. Speaker he is absolutely right to touch on the work force issues in NHS dentistry and absolutely right that we need to incentivise dentists on two fronts. Firstly to commit to the NHS and do more work in the NHS and there’s a range of things we are looking at in that regard but also to make sure that we get new dentists to the areas where they are most needed and we will certainly support incentives to that effect.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAWjEu2j5pU Joe said afterwards that he welcomed the commitment to incentivising NHS dentistry. He said he would be pressing the case for the East Wight with the Government, not just for more NHS dentists but GPs and social care workers too. Before entering Parliament, Joe worked for Dementia UK and their national Admiral Nurses programme.

I think it is terrible!
Wheres golden boy quiggers then?
He’s working and not after soundbites like this one, and Seely did
Doing what? He’s a backbench MP, it’s his job to ask questions.
Very important question Joe. Thank you from us all.
Just a shame his party did nothing to stop this with the 14 years of power they had at their disposal.
He belongs to the party that CAUSED the crisis, for pity’s sake.
At least Joe is speaking out. Now, if Tories could combine with Reform to form Conform Party or even Recon Party to end all these costly beings adding to our difficulties in finding dental care , doctors, housing, and costing us all millions whilst ruining our countryside stabbing our military, gang raping our children then sanity would surely prevail.
It’s the Tories who created this situation. What on earth makes you think that joining Nigel”the NHS should be privatised” Farage would make any difference?
There is no place in the country for
Reform.
Sadly a Racist Party
Not racist. Fascist.
They use the usual fascist playbook of promising the impossible, then blaming those who can’t defend themselves when they don’t deliver.
The racism this generates is purely coincidentally.
I would be interested to know your definition of fascism, an overused term usually employed by people who don’t know what they are talking about. Evidence of this can be seen in your second paragraph.
You seem to forget it was Joe’s party that got us into this dental mess in the first place.
The 2006 dental contract, which is at the bottom of all the issues was a Labour creation. The tories should have fixed it. They did in part but not entirely.
I’d like to know what bit they ‘fixed’ because many islanders no longer have a dentist.
Con Form.
Very apt.
Joe there are so many problems on the island.
Speeding motorists.
Crap Ferry services and extortionate Ferry fares.
Poor Dental services.
Well done Joe, just imagine if DEFORM were representing
IW East, what a frightening thought.
Joe you can make a change for the people of the island,
you were the right choice when voting.
Well the East Wight MP has made a noise, but not a squeak from the West Wight MP.
Is he related to the late ” don’t say a word” MP !!!
The man whose policies and Govt destroyed Dentistry, asks the new Govt to fix it!
Eh? He wasn’t even an MP. How could it be his government? Anyway, dentistry hasn’t been destroyed Mr Melodrama.
“dentistry hasn’t been destroyed”
no,.. private dentistry, as as service for,and making huge profits for the rich, is alive and thriving
NHS denstry however, which is all the most people could realisticaly afford, is on it’s death bed,.. thanks to the Tories..
Great topic, but can both MP’s focus on improving the local economy…. jobs, decent jobs, build confidence and stronger communities
How does Joe feel about the decline of the NHS Inc dentistry over the last 14 years under his party?
To the people who think the NHS should be privatised, what is happening to the dentists will happen to the doctors. But it’ll be worse. Be careful of what you wish for.
Weird that the biggest supporters of Reform are the very people who have the most to lose if the UK adopts US style healthcare.
