An East Cowes woman who denied being racist despite making extremely offensive remarks to a Police officer has pleaded guilty.
Jane Hill, 39, of Acorn Gardens in East Cowes, admitted common assault of an emergency worker and failing to answer to bail when she appeared before Magistrates at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (7th February).
At around 23:30 on 24th October, Police were called to Hill’s address after reports were made of a domestic incident, prosecutor Ann Smout, told the court. Island Echo previously reported on the incident.
Hill – who was noticeably drunk – didn’t want to answer any questions in regard to the incident to which officers were attending her home and became agitated when her partner was detained by officers.
The 39-year-old became increasingly aggressive and began lunging toward the officers trying to speak to her, shouting and swearing at them in the process. Hill attempted to lift her arm above her head as if she was going to hit an officer but was restrained just in time.
A verbal tirade of abuse continued before Hill called the officer ‘f**king black c**t’.
She was arrested and taken to Newport Police Station where, in interview, she admitted that she had bipolar disorder and was on various prescribed medications that made her feel in her own words, ‘like a zombie’.
The 39-year-old admitted that she had drunk around 4 cans of Thatcher’s and that whilst she didn’t remember what had happened that she did do what the Police had described, before adding that she wasn’t a racist and that Police officers shouldn’t be subject to such physical and mental abuse.
Hill has 2 previous convictions and was most recently in court back in 2016.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that his client had a number of factors impacting her at the time and that since the incident she has been regularly attending inclusion and that she is making progress.
Prior to sentencing, Magistrates ordered that a pre-sentence report be compiled with Hill set to appear before the court again on 3rd March.

Lmao…………..Good for you girl.
So freedom of speech can be an offence, a very dangerous move imo. For if such speech is true then it shouldn’t be a crime, and if it is, as clearly was, just a lie, then lying words should be dismissed as just that, an idiot, lying.
No need to waste money and time on such.
By all means ‘do’ a person for physical assault but not for saying an insult which was a lie.
Freedom of speech is all that keeps us from ending up like the countries we once ‘felt above’ like Russia and China, where we considered their citizens oppressed.
Equally the Police officer should have been able to say ‘Shut your mouth you drunken moron’ without any repercussions.
We have so much violence criminal damage, why waste court time on bad words.
The right to free speech is the right to openly criticise governments, organisations and individuals with regard to their actions and policies. That is what we can do here and what cannot be done in China, Russia, etc.
It does not confer the right to abuse someone because of their race, gender, age, disability, physical appearance etc.
I can say, without fear of repercussion, that I think Sunak is a pathetic excuse for a Prime Minister and needs to go.
What I can’t do is abuse him based on his race.
Clear now?
I think you would make a great MP in the upcoming IoW elections.
Excellent comment by the way.
Sometimes people forget emergency workers are human just like the rest of us. I’m sure she would be the first to dial 999 if she was in need!
She’s the 1st person to ring for police Think that’s the joke
That’s not fair…u don’t know me! Somebody could commit suicide with ur comments
How dare you
Pathetic waste of public funds. If the officer wasn’t thick skinned enough to handle this, he should find another job.
I would normally agree If u knew this person I’m 100 sure you would agree
Omg only 39 the drink must of aged her Or is it the lies she’s made up
Keyboard warrior…
