An East Cowes woman, who admitted several shoplifting offences to the value of more than £1,300, is to be sentenced in July.
Lois Hicks, 31 of Clarence Road in East Cowes, admitted 5x theft from a shop, assault by beating and assault by beating of an emergency worker when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 1st April).
Prosecuting, Lauren McConnell told the court that between 5th August and 1st November – on 5 separate occasions – Hicks stole goods totalling around £1,320 from several supermarkets including; Waitrose in East Cowes, Asda in Newport, Tesco Extra in Ryde and Tesco Express in Wootton.
Most of the items stolen were bottles of alcohol.
The court also heard how on the 5th September at Sports Direct in Newport, Hicks, became abusive toward a staff member before then kneeing a Police officer – who was attempting to remove a can of alcohol from her possession – in the testicles.
At the time of the offending, Hicks was subject to a community order and was in breach of a conditional discharge order.
Defending Hicks, Oscar Vincent, told the court that during the offending period Hicks was street homeless and that she was experiencing mental health issues and hallucinations. He also added that since the offending, Hicks’ mental health has vastly improved and that she is currently clean of controlled substances.
The case was adjourned until the 4th July to allow an all-options pre-sentence report be compiled.
Oh dear. Sounds like a spell in prison is needed
I keep reading they are full.
I forgot to say, living in East Cowes must be like
living in a Prison.
(There is only 1 road in and only 1 road out of East Cowes)
The escape route (the Floating Bridge) is always out of service
and Red Funnel couldn’t run a bath yet alone a decent
ferry service.
Lol
